The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed DLF, the country’s largest real estate player, to deposit Rs 630 crore in the registry within three months. The court rejected the company’s request for a stay on the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI’s) order in a case related to abuse of market dominance. The penalty is a little less than the company’s annual net profit of Rs 646.21 crore in 2013-14. The final court order is yet to come.

Following a petition by flat buyer associations of two DLF projects in Gurgaon — DLF Park Palace and The Belaire — CCI had in 2011 found DLF abusing its dominant position.

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex traded higher on Wednesday morning, ahead of the expiry of derivatives. The government is expected to release data on GDP growth on 29 August.

At 9.22am, the Sensex was trading up 0.52%, or 138.65 points, at 26,581.46 points, while the National Stock Exchange’s broader barometer 50-share Nifty was up 0.38%, or 29.95 points, at 7,934.70 points.

EPFO to pay 8.75% interest on PF deposits for 2014-15

New Delhi: Salaried employees will get an interest rate of 8.75% on their provident fund savings in 2014-15, the same as their retirement corpus earned in the previous fiscal year, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) announced on Tuesday.

Though the retirement fund manager had proposed to cut the interest rate to 8.7%, employees representatives in the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) declined to accept anything less than 8.8%, or five basis points more than last year. A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point.

State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest lender, on Tuesday cut its home loan rates by 5-15 basis points to a uniform rate of 10.15%, making its loans the cheapest in the market for all new home loan customers.

Irrespective of the quantum, women customers will get home loans at 10.10%. General customers can avail loans at 10.15% irrespective of the loan amount.
