A US judge has ruled that a nurse quarantined by her home state after treating Ebola patients could leave home and frequent public places, saying she was not infectious.

The decision from a district judge in the northeastern state of Maine is the latest twist in a bitter row over enforced quarantine of American medics returning from relief work in West Africa.

Welcoming the Centre’s move to increase the compensation amount for the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, the Aam Aadmi Party demanded that the Narendra Modi-led government immediately set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for a fair investigation.

Hit by a delayed and deficient monsoon and increased competition, tractor and utility vehicle market leader Mahindra & Mahindra on Friday reported a 4.2 per cent decline in stand-alone net profit for the quarter ended September 30.

The Mumbai-based company posted Rs 947 crore profit for the reporting quarter, below the Bloomberg consensus of Rs 961 crore. The company had reported a profit of Rs 989 crore during the same period last year.

NTPC, the country's largest thermal power producer, witnessed a growth in the gross generation for the first half of 2014-15 to 118.5 billion units while the profit declined by 16 per cent for Q2FY15 owing to changes in rate regulations.

For Q2 FY15, the unaudited profit after tax was Rs 2,071.63 crore as against Rs 2,492.90 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous year.

From Saturday, operations at Nokia’s Sriperumbudur factory, once the company’s largest globally, will come to a halt. This will be the first factory in India to officially suspend operations since the National Democratic Alliance government came to power at the Centre.

The move comes nine years after Nokia began manufacturing at the facility.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini framed charges under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and under the provision of the Money Laundering Act against 19 accused, including 10 individuals and nine companies, who were charge sheeted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the case.

Infosys has moved higher by nearly 2% to Rs 4,016, crosses Rs 4,000 mark on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The stock opened at Rs 3,987 and hit a record high on Rs 4,020 on BSE. A combined 354,764 equity shares changed hands on the counter till 1120 hours on NSE and BSE.

Mumbai: The Sensex and Nifty on Friday hit a new high for the second consecutive day on hopes that further reforms by the government may attract more investment from foreign as well as domestic institutional investors. This is the fourth consecutive day of gains for the benchmark indices.

Investors also think that reforms will help narrow fiscal deficit.

Apple Inc Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook publicly came out as gay, saying in a magazine article that he wanted to support others who find it difficult to reveal their sexual orientation.
