Ashok Leyland hits record high on strong December sales

Shares in Ashok Leyland has surged 6% to Rs 56.50, also its record high on BSE, after the company said it has reported 48% year-on-year jump in total sales at 9,290 units in December 2014. Auto major had sold 6,275 units during the same month of 2013.

Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles soared 85% in December 2014 to 7,210 units as against 3,890 units sold during the same month of previous year, Ashok Leyland said in a statement.

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has said is in the final stages of taking over land and forming a joint venture for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal project at Ennore near Chennai. The cost of the project, which will be the first LNG terminal in the eastern coast, has been revised to Rs 5,150 crore.

Speaking on the sidelines of the alumni association’s meeting of College of Engineering, Guindy in Chennai on Sunday, IOC chairman B Ashok said orders were being firmed up and the joint venture would be formed in a month. The project is expected to be completed by end-2017.

State-owned Bhel has bagged a Rs 3,810 crore contract from Telangana for setting up the newly formed state's first thermal power project.

"Valued at Rs 3,810 crore, the order is for setting up the 800 MW supercritical thermal power plant on EPC (engineering, procurement & construction) basis at Kothagudem in Khammam District of Telangana," Bhel said in a statement.
