Coal Scam: Former PM Manmohan Singh, Industrialist KM Birla summoned as accused by a special court

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary P C Parakh and three others were today summoned as accused by a special court in a coal scam case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005 and asked to appear before it on April 8.

pecial CBI Judge Bharat Parashar summoned the six accused on April 8 for the alleged offences punishable under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of the IPC and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).

Maruti Suzuki to recall 33,098 units of Alto

Maruti Suzuki India, India’s largest car maker, on Tuesday said it would be recalling 33,098 vehicles, including its popular models Alto 800 and Alto K10.

According to the company’s statement to the stock exchanges, the recall is to inspect and replace the ‘right hand door latch assembly’. Maruti Suzuki dealers in the domestic market will contact customers who have cars manufactured between December 8, 2014 and February 18, 2015, it stated.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is likely to fall short of its target of road construction for the current fiscal, and what's more the execution rate declined by 17 per cent to 3.41 km per day during the first eight months of FY15 from 4.14 km per day during the same period in the preceding year.

According to a recent analysis by credit rating firm ICRA, the NHAI has awarded 1,572 km of contracts during eight months of FY 15 (April-Nov ember 2014), while it had set itself a target of 5,500 km for FY 15, 35 per cent of which was earmarked for Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) segment and rest for Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
