Lanco mulls selling power business stake

Lanco Infratech, an Indian electricity producer, is considering selling part of its generation business to cut debt amid four straight years of losses.

The company expects to raise Rs 4,000 crore ($630 million) in two to three years by either taking the unit public or roping in a strategic partner, said T Adi Babu, chief operating officer, finance. Lanco will also sell its Australian coal mine and its toll-road business in India when it gets an acceptable price, he said.

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) may see a surge in its bottom line in the coming quarters, as the miner for the first time will start selling coal through e-auction windows to power plants not having fuel supply agreements (FSA).

There will be two e-auction windows, apart from the existing one. The first e-auction window will be for plants having power purchase agreements (PPAs) and the floor price in this case will be 20 per cent more than CIL's notified price at the time of bidding. Power price under PPAs with the distribution companies are arrived after rate-based bidding and approved by the regulator.

Ahmedabad-based eCommerce firm Infibeam has filed for an IPO to raise $71 million, becoming the first Indian eCommerce company to list its shares on the domestic market beating biggies like Flipkart and Snapdeal. The raised funds will be used for expanding business, including setting up a cloud data unit and 75 logistics centres.

The company had filed draft papers with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Draft Red Herring Prospectus which offers shares of Rs 10 each for cash, reports BusinessStandard. Founded in 2007 by Vishal Mehta, Infibeam operates in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, and has a total of 1300 employees. It is an online retailer for Books, electronics and automobiles in India.

The decision on merging state-run BSNL and MTNL will be taken in the next four-five months, Telecom Secretary Rakesh Garg said on Friday.
