An Indian antitrust investigation has found U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart violated local competition laws by giving preference to select sellers on their shopping websites, according to reports seen by Reuters.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) in 2020 ordered an investigation into Amazon and Flipkart for allegedly promoting certain sellers with which they had business arrangements and giving priority to certain listings.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she was "ready to resign" for the "sake of people" and expressed regret over the junior doctors' refusal to come for talks to resolve the impasse over the R G Kar rape-murder case.
Banerjee, who waited for nearly two hours for the agitating doctors to come for the meeting, said she also wanted the victim to get justice, and apologised to the people of West Bengal for the continued deadlock.

Several parts of Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) woke up to rain on Thursday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain until Friday and issued a yellow alert for the city.
According to the IMD, a combination of factors is likely to keep Delhi wet. It may cause waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas, and possible traffic disruptions.

Some Republican officials, donors and advisers said Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, had botched his debate with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, although Trump himself praised his performance.
"I think it was one of my better debates, maybe my best debate," Trump told the "Fox & Friends" programme on Wednesday, adding that he was not sure whether to do another one. "I'd be less inclined ... because we had a great night." Harris, 59, put Trump, 78, president from 2017-2021, on the defensive in a combative presidential debate on Tuesday with a stream of attacks on his fitness for office and his myriad legal woes.

The Union Cabinet approved two major schemes with a total outlay of Rs 14,335 crore to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs), including buses, ambulances, and trucks. The two schemes are PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years, and PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) with a budget of Rs 3,435 crore.
The PM E-DRIVE scheme replaces the earlier Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME), which was introduced in 2015 with an initial budget of roughly Rs 900 crore.

As the country ages, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved expansion of health coverage under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to all senior citizens aged 70 years or above. The flagship health insurance scheme launched in September 2018 saw a further boost as the move aims to benefit approximately 45 million families, having 60 million senior citizens, with Rs 5 lakh free health insurance cover on a family basis.
With this approval, all senior citizens of the age 70 years and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status, would be eligible to avail of the benefits of AB-PMJAY.

Shares of Century Textiles & Industries, an Indian textile and paper manufacturing company that is a part of the Aditya Birla Group, clocked an all-time high of Rs 2,648.85 per share on the BSE, on Wednesday.
The stock extended its rally for the second consecutive day and climbed 6.7 per cent intraday after it acquired the ownership rights in its leasehold land parcel in Worli, Mumbai.

Shares of state-owned upstream oil companies Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India dipped up to 6 per cent on the BSE in Wednesday’s intra-day on profit booking as crude oil prices were trading near three years low on concerns over a weak demand outlook.
Shares of Oil India have dipped 6.4 per cent to Rs 570 on the BSE in intra-day trade. With today’s decline, the stock has fallen 26 per cent from its record high level of Rs 767.30 that it touched on August 30.
