A protest march by the opposition Congress towards the Kerala DGP office here on Saturday turned violent with agitators hurling stones and sticks at the police following which water cannons were used to disperse the crowd.

The march was organised by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to protest against the alleged police atrocities against its workers during their agitation against the ongoing 'Nava Kerala Sadas' outreach programme of the Left government.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribu­nal (NCLAT) on Friday dismissed an appeal of Jet Airways bidder Jalan Kalrock Consortium (JKC) challenging the sale of aircraft belonging to the grounded airline.

The tribunal had reserved its order on an appeal filed by JKC against the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) order asking the airline’s monitoring committee to conclude the sale of the Jet aircraft.

Commercial cooking gas (LPG) prices were on Friday cut by Rs 39.50 per 19-kg cylinder in line with softening international benchmarks.

Amid rising cases of Covid-19, Pune-based Serum Institute of India may soon sell vaccines against the new JN.1 variant in India. It is preparing to apply for licensing of the vaccine, a report by Moneycontrol said on Friday.

A spokesperson of the company was cited in the report as saying that the Serum Institute currently offers a vaccine against the XBB1 variant of Covid-19. It is "very similar" to the JN.1 variant. "In the coming months, we are aiming to obtain licensure for this vaccine in India," they said.

Shares of Tata Motors rose 3 per cent on the BSE to Rs 729.30 in Friday’s intra-day trade after stock exchanges granted the company 'no objection' to the cancellation of Tata Motors DVR shares.

"BSE and NSE granted their 'no objections' to the scheme of arrangement among Tata Motors and its shareholders and creditors for the cancellation of the entire ‘A’ ordinary share capital (DVR) and issuance and allotment of ordinary shares as consideration for such reduction of capital, " the firm said in a filing.

The central government has no plans to issue guidelines on travel restrictions, mask mandates, or booster shots, despite a steady rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

“The government will not issue any guidelines on mask mandates or booster shots. It is closely monitoring the situation," a senior official in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was quoted as saying by The Economic Times (ET).

The stock ended the session at Rs 940, a 42.4 per cent premium to its issue price. Post-listing, the company commands a market capitalisation of Rs 8,531 crore. Inox India priced its initial public offering (IPO) between Rs 627 and Rs 660 per share. The Rs 1,459 crore IPO was an offer for sale. The IPO was subscribed 61 times. The company had also raised Rs 438 crore from anchor investors.
