Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended the week with marginal gains after US Federal Reserve left key interest rates unchanged. Markets also got a boost from reports that foreign institutional investors poured over Rs 5,500 crore into the capital markets within a fortnight this month. For the week ended September 23, the 30-share index closed 69.19 points, or 0.24 per cent, up at 28668.22, while the Nifty 50-index jumped 51.70 points, or 0.59 per cent, to 8831.55.

MUMBAI: Shares of Axis Bank fell nearly 6 per cent, the most in 11 months, on market buzz that Specified Undertaking of Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) may announce the sale of its stake in the lender at any time.

However, bankers said they are yet to start the groundwork and the Axis Bank offer for sale will not happen soon.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said on Friday that it has received shareholders’ nod to raise up to R9,600 crore through a mix of equity and equity-linked instruments.

In a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company said it had received shareholders’ approval at its annual general meeting (AGM) held on August 26 to issue convertible bonds and/or equity shares through depository receipts of an amount not exceeding R3,600 crore or $600 million, whichever is higher.

The war of words over point of interconnects (PoIs) between Reliance Jio and incumbent operators continued on Friday with the Mukesh Ambani firm saying 40 million calls were failing everyday between it and Idea, while Jio claimed that the proposed augmentation by Idea was inadequate.

Idea said it would further enhance capacity for Jio in both access and long-distance interconnection by 230 per cent. Idea said it has now provisioned 1,865 ports for access, from 565 earlier — a 230 per cent increase in capacity — and simultaneously the long-distance capacity was also being expanded by 50 per cent.

At 2pm, the home currency was trading at 66.69 per dollar, down 0.03% from its previous close of 66.67. The rupee opened at 66.70 per dollar and touched a high and low of 66.62 and 66.73, respectively.

Mumbai: ICICI Bank Ltd will continue to bring back capital from its overseas subsidiaries as its international business stagnates, a top executive has said.

According to N.S. Kannan, an executive director at India’s second largest private sector lender, business at its wholly-owned subsidiaries has not been growing because Indian companies are not enthusiastically going abroad and seeking to acquire capacities. This means they don’t require much funding from the bank’s international offices.

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India today announced crossing the milestone of 15 lakh vehicles in its cumulative exports.

“These vehicles have been exported to over 100 countries including Europe, Latin America and Africa. Early this year, the company’s premium hatchback Baleno, manufactured exclusively in India, became the first car to be exported from India to Japan,” the company said in a statement.
