Amazon pushes Bollywood button to get more Prime customers in India

Amazon has signed a long term deal with Karan Johar's production outfit to bring latest Bollywood movies to its Prime customers, the premium service that it is building in India to lock in customers and take on local rival Flipkart.

In the US, Amazon has been able to get nearly half of all households to subscribe to Prime, which offers exclusive movies and shows, quick deliveries at no cost and early access to deals. These customers spend $1,100 on an average, twice as much as a normal user to buy goods on its e-commerce platform.

Reliance Industries (RIL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Castrol India from the S&P BSE Oil & Gas index hitting their respective 52-week highs in intra-day trade on Monday.

At 03:07 PM, the S&P BSE Oil & Gas index was up 0.16%, as compared to 1.2% decline in S&P BSE Sensex. The index hit an intra-day high of 11,573, its highest level since September 10, 2014.

India's largest energy conglomerate NTPC will raise USD 500-USD 700 million in Masala bonds from the financial markets in London, Hong Kong and Singapore from November this year, a top company official said today.

"The funds raised through the bonds will be for several projects under construction," NTPC's director of finance and chief financial officer, Kulamani Biswal said after attending the launch of Singapore Exchange (SGX) Masala Bond Hub.

Home-grown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Monday said it will raise Rs 475 crore through issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis.

In a regulatory filing, M&M said: "The Loans and Investment Committee... Has approved issuance and offer of 4,750 rated, listed, unsecured, redeemable 7.57 per cent secured non-convertible redeemable debentures with a face value of Rs 10 lakh each aggregating Rs 475 crore on a private placement basis."

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday launched SCATSAT-1, a satellite for weather studies into the space. In the next two hours, it would launch seven other satellites into the orbit.

About 17 minutes after it lifted off from the First Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre here at 9.10 am, PSLV C-35 ejected SCATSAT-1 satellite in the polar sun synchronous orbit at an altitude of 730 km.

Hyderabad: Four columns of the Army have been deployed in rain-affected areas of Hyderabad and neighbouring Ranga Reddy district after heavy downpour wreaked havoc in the capital and other parts of Telangana cutting off low-lying areas.

The Army troops have been moved into Begumpet, Nizampet and Hakimpet areas in the city and Alwal in Ranga Reddy district to provide necessary relief, according to a Defence release.

The All India National Life Insurance Employees Federation has urged the management of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to immediately implement the Supreme Court order to pay 50 per cent back wages to temporary III and IV grade employees, who were asked to be regularised.

The Federation, an INTUC affilate, led by Hussain Dalwai, MP, president, General secretary Rajesh Nimbalkar and vice-president B N P Shrivastava met the management of LIC recently and submitted a memorandum of demands to regularise these employees and also pay them their arrears immediately.
