In an anti-climax of sorts regarding environmental conservation efforts and carbon emission reduction, a recent report has revealed an unsettling trend: India's consumption of petrol has more than doubled over the past decade, while diesel consumption has risen by approximately one-third, The Economic Times reported.
Overall, oil demand has surged by fifty per cent. Data from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry indicates that between 2013-14 and 2023-24, annual petrol consumption skyrocketed by 117 per cent, diesel by 31 per cent, aviation turbine fuel by 50 per cent, and LPG by 82 per cent, the report claimed.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court (SC) against the Delhi High Court's order rejecting his petition against his arrest in the liquor policy case.
On Tuesday, after the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's plea against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), his counsel, Rishikesh Kumar, stated that they were well within their rights to challenge the ruling.

Ride-hailing firm Ola Cabs is exiting all of its international markets, which include the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, as it focuses on the Indian market and growing its electric vehicle (EV) fleet.
An Ola Mobility spokesperson shared in a statement that the ride-hailing business is growing rapidly in India, where they are profitable and are segment leaders.

At least 15 people were killed and more than a dozen injured -- all employees of a private firm -- as the bus they were travelling in fell into a 'murum' soil mine pit in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Tuesday night, police said. The accident took place around 8:30 pm near Khapri village under Kumhari police station limits when the victims, employees of a distillery company, were returning home after work, Durg Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla said.
As per preliminary information, the bus with more than 30 people onboard skidded off the road and plunged into the 40 feet deep 'murum' mine, he said.

Tesla is potentially seeking a local partner to establish its operations in India. The American electric vehicle giant is considering the prospect of a joint venture with Reliance to construct a manufacturing facility within the country, The Hindu Businessline reported on April 9.
Reportedly, Tesla has earmarked $2 billion for its forthcoming endeavours in India and has been scouting various locations, including Gujarat and Maharashtra, as potential sites for the plant. Maharashtra is purportedly emerging as the favoured choice, the report claimed.

The Commonwealth Games Federation plans to announce a new host for its 2026 event next month, saying it has multiple proposals to replace Australia's Victoria state.
The CGF on Monday said it was keeping the proposals confidential. Victoria state lawmakers last July withdrew from plans to host the 2026 Games in three regional hubs, citing escalating costs.

Shares of Bandhan Bank tanked 9 per cent to Rs 179.55 on the BSE in Monday’s intra-day trade in an otherwise firm market after Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO), of the bank said would retire after the completion of his current tenure on July 9. Ghosh has led the bank since July 10, 2015.
At 09:17 am; Bandhan Bank was trading 8.5 per cent lower at Rs 180.70, as compared to 0.33 per cent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 173.45 on March 14, 2024.
