Infosys, Wipro hit 52-week lows

Shares of two information technology (IT) majors Infosys (Rs 994) and Wipro (Rs 454) hit their respective 52-week lows on BSE in intra-day trade on Friday.

At 11:22 am, Wipro was down 0.59% at Rs 460 and Infosys down 0.57% at Rs 1,000, as compared to 0.01% fall in the S&P BSE Sensex. Both these stocks have underperform the market post July-September (Q2FY17) results.

Shares of Tata Group companies were trading higher by up to 5%, recouping part of their losses recorded in past three trading sessions.

Tata Motors, Tata Motors DVR, Tata Communications, Tata Metaliks, Tata Elxsi, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra), Tata Sponge Iron, Tata Coffee, Tata Global Beverages were up between 2%-5% on BSE. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), however, is down nearly 1% as compared to 0.18% decline in the S&P BSE Sensex at 09:48 am.

GMR Male International Airport Limited (GMIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Limited, said in a statement on Thursday that it has been awarded compensation of nearly $270 million by a three-member international arbitral tribunal.

The compensation covers the debt, equity invested in the project along with a return of 17% and also termination payments and legal costs. The compensation is net of taxes that GMIAL may be required to pay in the Maldives, it said.

Indian Oil Corporation on Thursday reported a net profit of R3,121.89 crore for the July-September quarter of FY17, as against a net loss of R450.24 crore during the same period last year.

“Last year, we had an inventory loss of R5,134 crore, while it has come down to R686 crore this year. Moreover, better petrochemical margins this quarter also played a role in improved net profit,” said B Ashok, chairman of IOC.

State-owned BSNL to reduce its workforce by nearly 7% in 2017-18

NEW DELHI: State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. will reduce its workforce by nearly 7% in 2017-18, from the employee-base of 2,09,996 in 2016-17.

BSNL expects total employees as on April 30, 2017, to be 1,96,162, the state-driven telco said in response to an application filed under the Right to Information Act, 2005.

“We are aware of the proposed penalty. We believe there is confusion here. We will find a way to go back to Trai and department of telecommunications (DoT).
