Air India mulls leasing Dorniers to boost regional services

Flag carrier Air India is mulling leasing ten Dornier aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd to boost its regional operations as the government looks to make flying more affordable under the ambitious UDAN scheme.

State-owned HAL is already making the Dornier 228 planes under licence from Swiss technology company RUAG for the defence forces and European markets.

Sebi tightens norms for credit rating companies

Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Tuesday asked credit rating agencies to frame detailed rules for rating criteria, processes and responsibilities of rating analysts and increase the range of their disclosures. Raters have 60 days to adhere to these norms.

The capital markets regulator asked rating companies to define on what basis they rate companies and how the rating process is carried out.

NEW DELHI: State run miner CIL's coal supply to power sector declined by 2.9 per cent to 184.9 million tonnes (MT) in the first six months of the current fiscal even as demand for the fossil fuel has started picking up.

The dispatch of dry fuel by Coal India (CIL) in the corresponding period of FY'16 was at 190.6 MT, government data said.

Bajaj Auto released its sales figures for the month of October on Wednesday. In the month, the two-wheeler maker's domestic motorcycle sales were up 5%, however, exports fell 11%. Its total sales (commercial vehicles and motorcycle sales) grew on 1% compared to the same period last year.

According to the data released in a statement to the BSE, Bajaj Auto sold 2,12,997 units of its motorcycles in the domestic market in October, compared to the 2,02,042 units sold in the same period last year, a growth of 5%.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has moved higher by 3% to Rs 1,359 on the BSE, bouncing back 4% from early morning lows, after reporting a strong 61% year on year (YoY) growth in total tractor sales at 45,177 units in October 2016.

M&M’ Farm Equipment Sector (FES) sold total (domestic + exports) 27,280 units during October 2015, the company said in a statement.

The five associate banks of State Bank of India (SBI) have booked heavy combined loss of Rs 3,096 crore in the financial year’s second quarter ended September, on a sharp rise in provisions for stressed loans.

This is an outcome of aligning the treatment of weak and bad loans on the books of associates with those for the SBI group, ahead of the proposed merger with the parent. Collectively, they had posted net profit of Rs 870 crore in July-September 2015. The highest loss this time was reported by State Bank of Patiala (SBP) at Rs 1,340 crore, followed by State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) at Rs 776 crore.

Debit card security breach: IRDAI takes guard, readies cyber security shield

In the wake of the recent data breach involving the banking system, insurance regulator IRDAI is in the process of setting up a cyber security framework to thwart any such incident in future.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) said it will be a comprehensive framework for the sector. The watchdog will also put in place an appropriate mechanism to mitigate these risks. "In this connection, it has been decided to form two separate working groups for life and non-life sectors (including health) comprising CIOs of insurers to discuss and decide on the issues related to cyber security," it said in a circular.
