PNB Gilts hit a new high of Rs 51.30, up 10% on BSE, extending its month-long rally after it reported a robust set of numbers for the second quarter ending September 30, 2016 (Q2FY17).

Since October 25, post Q2FY17 results, the stock zoomed 71% from Rs 30 as compared to 7.8% decline in S&P BSE Sensex.

Effective implementation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 can potentially release about Rs. 25,000 crore capital currently locked up in non-performing assets (NPAs) over next four to five years, noted a recent ASSOCHAM-Crisil joint study.

“If implemented successfully, the code will help India’s banking sector catch up with or even exceed the recovery rates of 32 percent and average time taken of 2.8 years in other emerging markets,” highlighted the study titled ‘Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016: A game changer,’ conducted by ASSOCHAM jointly with Crisil.

In a recent announcement, the Reserve Bank of India has today said that all overdraft and cash credit holders will now able to withdraw up to Rs 50,000 in a week. As per the advancement, the holders of current, overdraft and cash credit accounts operational from past three months and more will now be able to withdraw up to Rs 50,000 cash in a week. As per the RBI, Indian banks have till now disbursed a total of about Rs 1.03 lakh crore cash post the note ban announcement.

State-owned CIL is examining opportunities to export coal with high ash content or high grade fossil fuel to the neighbouring nations, Parliament was informed today.

“CIL (Coal India) is exploring opportunities to export Indian coal having high ash content or high grade coal to the neighbouring countries as the demand for such type of coal is comparatively less in the domestic market,” Minister of State of Coal, Power, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal said in a reply to the Rajya Sabha.

With lenders doubtful over the completion of Samrala Chowk and Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad (KUA) Package VI projects, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has terminated the ventures, sources confirmed to FE. Both projects were to be built through the hybrid annuity model (HAM). Raghav Chandra, chairman, NHAI, told FE that both the projects have been terminated. Chandra, however, denied that banks were uncomfortable lending to the projects.
