Microsoft's Nadella banks on LinkedIn data to challenge Salesforce

Microsoft is rolling out upgrades to its sales software that integrates data from LinkedIn, an initiative that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told Reuters was central to the company's long-term strategy for building specialised business software.

The improvements to Dynamics 365, as Microsoft's sales software is called, are a challenge to market leader Salesforce.com and represent the first major product initiative to spring from Microsoft's $26-billion acquisition of LinkedIn, the business-focused social network.

The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) said Indian information technology (IT) service entities account for less than a fifth of H-1B visas in America.

A background briefing by US White House officials, ahead of President Donald Trump signing an executive order last week to bring in changes to the H-1B visa programme, had accused both Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys Technologies of paying lower wages for workers sent to the US.

Reliance Industries (RIL) reported record annual profits for the last financial year (2016-17), riding high on refining and petrochemicals businesses. For the March quarter, its consolidated net profit rose 12.3 per cent to Rs 8,046 crore, against Rs 7,167 crore for the same period a year ago.

With a significant part of its capital expenditure on the hydrocarbons business complete, the company expects it to contribute to its income in the current financial year (2017-18). The full impact would be visible in the next financial year (2018-19). The coming quarters, however, will see accounting for both revenue and expenses from its telecom venture.

Reliance Communications (RCOM) has received 99.99 per cent shareholders approval for merger of its wireless business with Aircel, a company statement said here on Monday.

"The shareholders of Reliance Communications at their meeting convened pursuant to the order of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), have on Monday approved with 99.99 per cent majority for the Scheme of Arrangement for demerger of the wireless division of the company and Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, into Aircel Limited and Dishnet Wireless Limited (the Scheme)," the company statement said.

The canteen stores department(CSD), the retailing platform for India's defence forces suspended the sale of Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved's amla juice after receiving a negative state laboratory test report about the product. In a letter dated April 3, 2017, the CSD asked all depots to make debit notes for their existing stock so that the Amla Juice can be sent back to Patanjali.

Amla Juice was one of Patanjali's first consumer launches which helped the company establish its credentials in the consumer business segment. As per reports, a batch of juice tested at the lab in Kolkata was declared unfit for consumption. Patanjali has therefore withdrawn amla juice from all army canteens.

Capital markets regulator Sebi will soon put in place stricter norms to check any flow of black money into stock market though controversy-ridden P-Notes and also initiate steps for allowing mutual fund investments through e-wallets.

Besides, Sebi will consider this week new norms for allowing options trading in commodity derivative market, while rules would be relaxed for registration of foreign investors and for common license to brokers to deal in equities and commodities, sources said.
