Bank employees may go on strike over non payment of working extra hours during demonetization

Bank unions on Wednesday threatened to go on a strike over non payment of their dues while they worked overtime during the demonetization drive that happened in November last year.

Depending on the salary, a bank employee is likely to receive around Rs 100 to Rs 300 for every extra hour. CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary of All India Banks' Employees Association (AIBEA) told Hindustan Times that the issue has been brought to the notice of the government and if no action is taken they are likely to go on a strike or even take legal action.

Lenders saddled with Rs 45,000 crore of Reliance Communications’ debt are not keen to convert it at the higher price announced by the company earlier to its shareholders because the current market price is far below the conversion price. Taking this price into account, the lenders are supposed to convert their debt in lieu of a 51 per cent stake in the company at a total equity valuation of Rs 6,150 crore as compared with the current market value of Rs 4,306 crore.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which had quoted a price 18% higher to Tata Motors in the country’s biggest tender for 10,000 electric cars, has agreed to stretch itself and match the price offered by its rival. Accordingly, the company will now be able to supply 150 eVerito sedans in the first phase of the tender while Tata Motors will supply the remaining 350 electric Tigors. It is not immediately clear at this point how the second phase order of 9,500 units will be split between the two companies.

Chandigarh, Oct. 3 (PTI): Honeypreet Insan, who claims to be the adopted daughter of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was arrested today by Haryana police in connection with the violence that followed Gurmeet's conviction on rape charges on August 25.

The arrest came hours after Honeypreet, accused of trying to orchestrate Gurmeet's failed escape bid after the conviction, appeared on two private television channels and interacted with journalists at an undisclosed location. The police had been looking for her for more than a month.

The government knows that if it has to get more suitors for Air India Ltd, it will have to offload a good portion of its gigantic debt. A report in The Economic Times on Monday said that of the airline’s total debt of Rs52,000 crore, about Rs33,000 crore will be transferred to a special purpose vehicle (SPV). The remaining debt, which is against aircraft purchases, will remain on its books, said the report.
