Bengaluru: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will keep monetary policy steady at its April meeting but shift to a hawkish stance by the end of this year and raise interest rates early in 2019 as inflation pressures build, according to a Reuters poll of economists.

All 61 economists polled between 23 and 28 March expected the RBI to hold the repo rate at 6% and the reverse repo rate at 5.75% at its 4-5 April policy meeting.

Independent power producers (IPPs) have asked the power ministry to clarify if fuel sourced from Coal India linkage or captive mines can be used to export power to neighbouring countries. After having issued a set of proposed revisions to motor third-party insurance premiums early this month, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (Irdai) notified general insurers of the rates applicable from April 1 onward.
