Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla lashed out at Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at RG Kar medical college and hopsital in Kolkata, saying that the Kolkata High Court has no faith left in West Bengal government.

"The Calcutta High Court has no faith in the West Bengal government and police. That's why the investigation has been handed over to the CBI." the BJP leader said on Friday.

Hindenburg Research has alleged a conflict of interest in Buch's investigations surrounding the Adani Group due to her previous investments. The allegations against the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate, made in January last year, triggered a big drop in the share prices of the flagship Adani Enterprises and other group firms which later recovered, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

The Election Commission on Friday announced that the Assembly Elections in the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, 2024. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the counting of votes will be done on October 4.

In Haryana, the Assembly Elections will coincide with the third phase of J-K from October 1 with counting of votes also scheduled for October 4, he informed.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a 24-hour nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine across the country in protest against the brutal rape and murder at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The protest will start at 6 am on Saturday, August 17, 2024, and conclude at 6 am on Sunday, August 18, 2024, according to a statement from IMA.
