Essel Propack, Great Eastern Shipping, Greenply Industries, Kajaria Ceramics, Kwality, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL), Rajesh Exports and Somany Ceramics, too, hit 52-week low today.

The BSE Sensex fell by 89.35 points to a low of 35,556.05 points during late-morning trade on Thursday following subdued Asian markets. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange fell by 28 points to a low of 10,741.45 points. Market observers said that along with subdued global cues, a weak rupee and heavy selling in index heavyweights Infosys, Tata Motors, Vedanta, Tata Steel Bharti Airtel — which fell more than 1% on the Sensex — dented investors’ risk-taking appetite.

Reliance Jio fared poorly in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) quality of service (QoS) norms which require a telco’s customer care centre to answer consumer complaints within a stipulated time.

Jio’s performance on this count has been found wanting for two successive quarters — October-December 2017 and January-March 2018 — as it did not meet the laid down criteria across all the 22 circles.

Essar Oil UK, the operator of Stanlow refinery, reported a 4.2% year-on-year fall in net profit for FY18 to $161 million, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) fell 4.2% to $300 million on account of planned shutdown of the refinery for two-and-a half months. The shutdown also impacted the throughput that fell 20.9% to 7.19 MMTPA.

The final nature of the deal and the payment plan will be worked out once the boards of HPCL and MRPL approve the proposal to merge.

The company is also in talks with multiple companies for deployment of the public Wi-Fi in India. In 2015, it had collaborated with RailTel for free Wi-Fi at 400 stations.
