India's electricity supply rises 3.25% in Jan after 5 months of decline

India's electricity supply rose 3.25 per cent during the month of January after five straight months of decline, provisional government data showed, in a relief for power producers.

Power supply rose to 106.36 billion units in January, up from 103.01 billion units last year, an analysis of daily load despatch data from state-run Power System Operation Corp Ltd (POSOCO) showed.

Hinduja group flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Monday reported 39.9 per cent decline in total vehicles sales at 11,850 units in January.

The company had sold 19,741 units in the same month last year, Ashok Leyland said in a regulatory filing.

Total domestic vehicles sales stood at 10,850 units in January against 18,533 units in the year-ago period, registering a decline of 41.4 per cent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will address his first rally for the Delhi elections in Karkardooma. The rally will be held at the CBD ground at around 2 PM today.

The PM, who is BJP's star campaigner for the Delhi Assembly polls, will address another rally in southwest Delhi's Dwarka on Tuesday. "One rally of the Prime Minister will be held in East Delhi at Karkardooma on February 3. The other rally will be held in Dwarka on February 4," a senior party leader had said.

The stock slipped over 5 per cent and hit a fresh 52-week low of Rs 207.20 apiece on the BSE.

Stocks of other cigarette and tobacco manufacturers shares also declined in trade. While Godfrey Phillips India slipped over 4 per cent to Rs 1086.50, VST Industries fell over 2 per cent to Rs 4,128 levels.
