State-owned CIL on Wednesday said it has entered into a pact worth Rs 2,900 crore with a Belarus-based mining equipment manufacturer for purchase of dumpers.

The pact is for purchase of 96 dumpers of 240 tonne capacity each, Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a statement.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to entertain the petitions regarding violence in Delhi during the Tractor Rally on Republic Day 2021. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that the law will do its job, Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde has said that in such a situation, the apex court does not want to interfere.

Refusing to hear the petitions demanding a judicial inquiry into the violence, the court asked the petitioners to submit a memorandum to the government.

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) employees on Tuesday opposed the government's proposal of disinvestment of the corporation and protested against the decision in Coimbatore.

During the Union Budget on Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the initial public offering of LIC will be brought in through requisite amendments in the session itself.

The rules for Citizenship (Amendment) Act, that was notified in December 2019 and came into force with effect from January 10, 2020 are under preparation, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

In a written reply, the minister said that the committees have granted an extension till April 9 and July 9 to frame the rules.

People in northern India will once again face lower temperatures as the Meteorological Department has forecast cold weather for the next few days in the northern and central part of India. Bajaj Auto Ltd on Tuesday reported an 8 per cent increase in total sales at 4,25,199 units in January.

The company had sold 3,94,473 units in the same month last year, Bajaj Auto said in a statement.

Total two-wheeler sales were at 3,84,936 units as against 3,32,342 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 16 per cent.
