Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has rolled out a two-day travel package that allows travellers to zip through the Golden Triangle — the three historic cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur — in 3 Shatabdi Express trains.

“This is one of the innovative travel packages which eminently suits those travellers who are planning a short-duration getaway. The package allows them to experience the magnificence of some of the most famous monuments in India,” said IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Manocha.

Japan has agreed to modernise 400 railway stations across the country, while participating in Indian Railways' investment of $140 billion (approximately Rs 9.3 lakh crore ), over the next five years.

A Japanese delegation will soon visit India to study the opportunities for industries in the railway station development plan of railways as the public transporter has identified 400 stations to be upgraded in private investment, an official release said on Wednesday.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the State Secretariat here on Thursday, said that a joint venture company will be set up between the Central and State Governments for implementation of the project.

Railways today ordered an inquiry into the twin train derailments in Harda in Madhya Pradesh which have left 24 passengers dead and ordered compensation for the families of the victims.

"According to reports, there was a possible burst in a nearby dam which caused sudden flow of water on the tracks and that resulted in the derailment," Railway Board Chairman A K Mittal told PTI.

Sixty special trains will become operational during Ganesh Chaturthi festival to clear the extra rush of passengers, the bookings for which will begin from tomorrow, railway officials said today.

Central Railway (CR) announced that Train no 01001 CST Mumbai-Madgaon-CST Mumbai Special will leave CST Mumbai at 12.20 midnight daily (except Thursday) from Sept 11 to Sept 29 and arrive at Madgaon at 2.10 PM same day.

Passengers will be able to log on to the Wi-Fi service at prominent railway stations of South East Central Railway zone, including Raipur, with the facility likely to be installed at these places by next year.

As many as 23 railway stations of various categories under the jurisdiction of SECR zone, comprising Bilaspur, Raipur and Nagpur divisions, will be equipped with the Wi-Fi facility in different phases.

India awarded projects worth a miniscule Rs 31 crore in the rail sector in May 2015, the lowest monthly figure in at least a year, and a 92% reduction from Rs 427 crore worth of projects awarded in May 2014.

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu today ordered a probe into the freak accident at Churchgate Station here wherein a local train crashed into the dead end, injuring five passengers and disrupting suburban services on the Western Railway line.

"Ordered enquiry into freak accident at Churchgate. All lapses of any kind... Responsibility will be fixed, action will be taken," he tweeted.
