Markets consolidate; Sensex holds 27,100

Benchmark share indices continued to trade weak as selling by foreign funds continued to weigh on market sentiment. Further, data suggests that Nifty roll-overs to the October series stood at 40% so far.

At 11.45 Hrs, Sensex was trading at 27,139.04 with a 67.77 points loss while NIfty shows a decline of 21.50 points at 8,124.80.

Markets edged lower in morning trades as selling in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and L&T weighed on the indices. At 1040 hrs, the Sensex was down 70 points at 27,137 and the Nifty was down 22 points to trade at 8,124.

The broader markets too gave up all of its early gains and were in red with the midcap index down 0.2% and the smallcap index down 0.04%.

BHEL bags Rs 3,500 crore order for Gujarat thermal plant

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged an order worth over Rs 3,500 crore for setting up a thermal power project in Gujarat. The contract has been awarded by the Gujarat State Electricity Corp Ltd.

In a statement on Thursday, BHEL said the Rs 3,536 crore order is to set up an 800 MW super critical thermal plant at Wanakbori in Kheda district.

The engineering and manufacturing major, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) will develop a 20 Mw solar power plant at Manamunda industrial estate in Boudh district.

“A letter of intent has been issued to BHEL which will develop the proposed solar plant. It will also operate and maintain the plant for a period ten years,” said an official of GEDCOL, the nodal agency for implmentation of renewable energy in the state.

At 11:50AM, the 30-share Sensex was up 168 points at 26,808 and the 50-share Nifty was up 56 points at 8,010.

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex traded higher on Wednesday morning, ahead of the expiry of derivatives. The government is expected to release data on GDP growth on 29 August.

At 9.22am, the Sensex was trading up 0.52%, or 138.65 points, at 26,581.46 points, while the National Stock Exchange’s broader barometer 50-share Nifty was up 0.38%, or 29.95 points, at 7,934.70 points.

NTPC is keen to join hands with Coal India Ltd (CIL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to augment its generation capacity and capability, which have been hit by coal shortage.

Minutes of a July meeting of an advisory group on integrated power development, headed by Suresh Prabhu, said, “NTPC’s performance was affected in recent years, and continues to be so, by the general situation of the coal shortage in the country. While this is true, it is also a fact that NTPC could develop the coal blocks allotted to it from 2004.”

State-run BHEL's net profit shrunk to Rs 193.50 crore for the quarter ended June 30, mainly due to drop in sales from power and industry segments. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 465.43 crore during the same period the last financial year, BHEL said.

State-owned power equipment maker BHEL on Friday commissioned 68 MW unit at the Rampur Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh.

“With the commissioning of one more hydro generating unit of 68 MW at Rampur project, BHEL has commissioned four units of the 412 MW hydro power plant of SJVN Limited,” BHEL said in a statement.
