Amazon.com Inc is flirting with a $1 trillion valuation again after posting its longest winning streak since briefly surpassing that level in September.

Seven consecutive days of gains have boosted the e-commerce giant’s market value to $993 billion as of Wednesday’s close, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. A gain of less than 1% for the stock would push the market capitalization above the 10-figure mark.

IBM closed its $34 billion purchase of Red Hat, sealing the world’s second-largest technology deal ever and setting up the iconic U.S. company on a path to try to compete with top software purveyors in the cloud.

The 108-year-old International Business Machines Corp., once synonymous with mainframe computing, has been struggling to adopt cloud-related technologies. It’s playing catch-up to market leaders Amazon.com Inc.

A quarter of a century ago, on July 5, 1994, a company, which shared a name with the world’s largest river, was incorporated. It sold books to customers who got to its website through a dial-up modem.

A federal court ruling that Amazon.com Inc. can be held liable for a dog collar sold on its website that partly blinded a woman could complicate the online merchant’s business if it is applied broadly.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals, in Philadelphia, overturned a judge’s decision that Amazon was shielded under the Communications Decency Act, which protects online businesses from lawsuits over the postings of their users.

Amazon.com Inc. is set to hire more than 2,000 workers in the U.K., including engineers, software developers and data scientists, to develop its latest technology ventures.

The Seattle-based tech giant’s U.K. workforce will total almost 30,000 people by the end of the year, and will include cloud and machine learning experts, corporate roles and fulfillment and delivery workers, the company said Wednesday in a statement.

Amazon on Friday said it partnered the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) to take tribal products to global customers.

TRIFED is the apex organisation under the ministry of tribal affairs, and the partnership will expand presence of TRIFED’s brand ‘Tribes India’ to Amazon users in 190 countries.

Amazon.com has steadily added options for customers to receive their packages including in car trunks, inside home garages and potentially by drone. On Thursday, Amazon added another alternative for U.S. customers: Walk into a nearby retailer and pick up an Amazon package over the counter. The new option, called Counter, will launch with pharmacy Rite Aid Corp offering the service in 100 stores, with an expansion to 1,500 stores by year’s end, the companies said.

India has told foreign e-commerce firms such as Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart that they must ensure compliance with new foreign investment rules aimed at deterring them from providing steep online discounts, three sources familiar with the discussions told Reuters.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said that while the government was prepared to listen to concerns about its new foreign direct investment rules (FDI), it was committed to protecting small traders from predatory behaviour by foreign-funded companies, the sources said.

Amazon India Senior Vice-President and Country Head Amit Agarwal has been named as the new chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Tuesday. He succeeds former Google India MD Rajan Anandan.

“Agarwal assumes office at a time when the industry is going through a growth trajectory with more than 500 million internet users in India,” IAMAI said in a statement.

Online retailer Amazon has invested Rs 450 crore in its digital payments arm Amazon Pay (India). The funding would help the Seattle-based company tap India's booming digital payments market and compete with Walmart-owned PhonePe, Alibaba-backed Paytm, and Google's mobile payment service Google Pay.

The funding came from Singapore-based Amazon Corporate and Mauritius-based entity Amazon.com, according to regulatory documents filed by Amazon, which were sourced from business intelligence platform Tofler.
