The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its approval to Paytm Payments Bank Ltd, which is co-owned by One97 Communications and Vijay Shekhar Sharma, to restart its know your customers (KYC) process as well as open fresh accounts. In June last year, the central bank directed Paytm Payments Bank to stop opening new accounts and e-wallets, after an audit in which the banking regulator observed that the company violated KYC norms.

Digital payments service Paytm has entered into a partnership with Life Insurance Corp (LIC) to help customers make insurance premium payments, One97 Communications Ltd, which owns the Paytm brand, said on Wednesday.

New Delhi: One97 Communications Ltd, the parent company of mobile payments app Paytm, widened its net loss by 70% in the last financial year as higher expenses offset a surge in revenue, showed data from business intelligence platform Tofler. The company, backed by China’s Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, posted loss of 1,490.7 crore in the year ended 31 March, 2018.

New Delhi: In the extortion case of Paytm co-founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, even as the police assigned motive to company vice-president of communication, Sonia Dhawan, saying she plotted the extortion to buy a house worth Rs 4 crore in Delhi, along with her husband Rupak Jain, Dhawan’s family has claimed otherwise.

Police say Jain’s property business was not doing well and the couple hatched the plan to extort money from Paytm co-founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

Breaking his silence for the first time since the news of data theft at Paytm came out, founder and Chief Executive Officer Vijay Shekhar Sharma on Wednesday said he was shocked and wanted answers.

“I’m stunned and want to figure out the truth. I have always believed her (Sonia Dhawan, his secretary and one of the accused). It is possible that she has been used as a conduit. Cops will unearth the truth,” said Sharma.
