Sensex in green over earnings optimism, ONGC among top gainers

Key indices on Tuesday opened on a positive note as investors widened their positions ahead of quarterly earnings from some bluechip companies amid positive Asian cues.

Japan’s Nikkei posted the longest winning-streak in its nearly 70-year history as markets cheered election victory of Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. Tokyo’s benchmark index rose 1.11% ending at 21696.65.

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex recovered about 224 points and the NSE Nifty regained the 10,200 mark in early trade on Monday on fresh buying by investors amid a firm trend in Asian markets.

The 30-share barometer, which had lost 194.39 points on the first day of Samvat 2074 in special 'Muhurat' session on Thursday, was trading higher by 223.86 points or 0.69 per cent at 32,613.82.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex surrendered early gains to end over 194 points lower at 32,389.96 in a special Muhurat trading session on Thursday to mark the beginning of Hindu Samvat year 2074.

Banking stocks led the fall as participants booked profits to write their first entry with gains on the first session of Samvat 2074, brokers said. The broader NSE Nifty too dipped below the 10,200-mark in the special one-hour Muhurat session.

The 30-share Sensex was higher by 112.53 points, or 0.35 per cent, at 31,946.52. Healthcare, realty, IT, capital goods, oil and gas and auto stocks were in the pink of health, rising by up to 0.86 per cent. The gauge had lost 90 points yesterday.

Rise in the Sensex was mainly boosted by Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries and M&M which surged by more than 1% each.

Key indices on Tuesday opened in green. In opening trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex was up 82.94 points at 31,929.83 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 23.75 points at 10,012.50.

At 10:54 AM, Sensx was in green with 93.82 points, up by 0.29% to reach at 31,940.71. Nifty on the other hand had reclaimed it 10,000 mark and was trading with 23.95 points at 10,017.25.
