Sensex jumps 250 pts; Nifty tests 10,950

Rising for the straight fifth session, the benchmark Sensex rallied 250 points after opening on a cautious note on January 21, on continued buying in select blue chips by domestic investors amid positive cues from other Asian bourses.

The 30-share BSE index jumped 228.12 points, or 0.63%, to 36,614.73 in early trade. The NSE Nifty, too, rose 53.10 points, or 0.49%, to 10,960.05.

Markets closed marginally higher on Friday after a volatile session as investors largely stuck to index heavyweights despite positive global cues.

The BSE Sensex settled 12.53 points, or 0.03 per cent, higher at 36,386.61. The broader NSE Nifty inched up 1.75 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 10,906.95.

After rising 147 points, the 30-share index was trading 72.16 points, or 0.20%, higher at 36,393.45 in early trade. Similarly, the NSE Nifty rose 24.50 points, or 0.22%, to 10,914.80.

Mumbai: Equity indices ended marginally higher Wednesday after a see-saw session, tracking mixed cues from the global markets amid geopolitical uncertainties.

After swinging nearly 200 points, the 30-share BSE Sensex index settled 2.96 points, or 0.01 per cent, higher at 36,321.29. The broader NSE Nifty inched up 3.50 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 10,890.30.

The 30-share index opened on a strong note at 36,191.87, but failed to hold on its gains and settled 96.66 points, or 0.27 per cent, lower at 36,009.84. Intra-day, the gauge swung between 36,214.26 and 35,840.60.

Mumbai: Breaking its four-day rising spree, the BSE Sensex ended over 100 points lower on Thursday on selling in banking shares amid negative cues from other Asian markets.

After a volatile session, the 30-share index settled 106.41 points, or 0.29 per cent, down at 36,106.50, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 33.55 points, or 0.31 per cent, to finish at 10,821.60.
