Nasscom McKinsey Report 2002 projects that Information Technology and ITES industry will account for over 7 percent of India's GDP, 30% of foreign exchange inflows and create over 4 Million jobs.
This sector holds immense hope for the common person. It can provide employment to science and arts graduates and non-graduates since skill requirement is simple- knowledge of language and basic computer skills.
Tamil Nadu with its excellent physical, civic and social infrastructure and a large pool of talented, educated, hardworking, English-speaking workforce is well positioned to capture a substantial share of the ITES market.
Recognising the huge potential, the pro-active Government of Tamil Nadu is formulating a policy to exploit this enormous opportunity for the welfare of the people served from Tamil Nadu will be the new mantra.

- Objectives: To position and establish Tamil Nadu as the Global ITES Capital,To develop Human Resources specific for ITES Sector, To promote Tier II centres such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli and Salem, To create an enabling framework for ITES, To increase the share of ITES in the State Gross Domestic Product, To promote extensive percolation of IT literacy and education in the State, To create domain expertise and focus on niche areas to enable the Tamil Nadu based companies to move up the value chain.

IT Infrastructure: |
- Six agencies have already been permitted on a non-exclusive basis to create high bandwidth optic fibre cable networks that will cover every single district in the State. These are M/s BPL Broadband, DishnetDSL, Bharti Telesonic, Macronet Private Ltd. (subsequently renamed as Reliance Infocomm Ltd.), Estel Communications Pvt. Ltd. and Bharti Telenet Ltd. This will make Internet access possible in every corner of the State. Reliance Infocomm, DishnetDSL and Bharti Telesonic are in the process of physical implementation of their projects.
- Tamil Nadu has the highest rural telephone connectivity in the country with nearly 86% of all its villages in Tamil Nadu covered.
