E.W. Howell Co., Inc.
E.W. Howell is a midsized New York general contractor and construction management firm that is a regional leader in retail construction. With offices in Manhattan and Long Island, E.W. Howell also builds hospitals, labs, libraries, office interiors, schools, and restaurants. Clients have included Bergdorf Goodman, Target, and Columbia University. It typically bids on projects in the private sector, but it also selectively competes within the public sector. Established in 1891, E.W. Howell began as a builder of homes for such well-heeled East Coast families as the Huttons and the Guggenheims. The Howells left the firm in the 1980s, and Japanese construction group Obayashi acquired the company in 1989.
