Safety-Kleen, Inc.
Safety-Kleen has recycled itself, successfully recovering from a bankruptcy in 2000 to become a force in today's industrial waste management field. Through its Safety-Kleen Systems subsidiary, it provides services for local auto shops, government agencies, and large corporations across North America. It is the largest recovery and recycling company for used-oil products in the US, refining more than 200 million gallons annually; it also operates more than 200 service and recycling centers serving more than 330,000 locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Asia. Three venture capital groups and JPMorgan Chase own a majority of the company. A planned IPO in 2008 was withdrawn due to adverse market conditions.
