Indian Motorcycle Company
Indian Motorcycle, founded in 1901, emerged from the bankruptcy trail of tears after being bought by Stephen Julius (founder of London-based private equity firm Stellican Ltd.) and his US partner Steve Heese. The duo wrested the iconic Indian Motorcycle from the auction block in 2004, along with the company's intellectual property, and engineering and design rights. They also moved its headquarters and craftsman operations to North Carolina from California. The venerable V-twin heavy cruiser Indian Chief, with trademark valanced fenders, teardrop headlights, and Indian headdress mascot, re-debuted in early 2009; the lighter Indian Scout is due out in 2010.
