Town Municipal Council,Udupi came into existence in 1935 and was converted into City Municipal Council in the year 1995.Udupi city is district headquarter for the district of same name.Udupi is new district formed separated from Dakshina Kannada district in 1997.Udupi consist of 1,13,039 population according to the 2001 census has 68.23 Sq.K.M. area for it's municipal limit. Sri Krishna Matha :Udupi Sri Krishna Matha is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to god Krishna located in the town of Udupi in Karnataka, India.The matha area resembles a living ashram, a holy place for daily devotion and living. Surrounding the Sri Krishna Matha are several temples, the most ancient being made of basic wood and stone of 1,500 years origin. (See Udupi for more) The Krishna Matha was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhwacharya in the 13th century. He was the founder of the Dvaita school of Vedanta. It is believed that Madhwacharya found the idol of SriKrishna in a large ball of gopichanda. |
| The Malpe Beach :Malpe is a natural port about six kilometers to the west of Udupi, Karnataka, India. An important port and fishing harbor on the Karnataka coast, Malpe is situated at the mouth of the Udyavara river.Malpe is part of Kodavoor Grama. It is a suburb in Udupi city and is administerd by Udupi City Municipality. Tulu, Kannada and Konkani are spoken here. |
| St. Mary's Islands :St. Mary's Islands also known as Coconut Island, are a set of four small islands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Malpe in Udupi, Karnataka, India. They are known for their distinctive geological formation of columnar basaltic lava (pictured).Scientific studies indicate that the basalt of the St. Mary's Islands was formed by sub-aerial subvolcanic activity, because at that time Madagascar was attached to India. The rifting of Madagascar took place around 88 Mya. |
| Karkala :Karkala is a town and the headquarters of Karkala taluk in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. Located about 380 km from Bangalore, it lies near the Western Ghats.The town was called Pandya Nagari during the period of Jain rule, and later became known as Karikallu, then Karkal and finally to Karkala.Karkala dates back to the beginning of the 10th century. |
| Chandramoulishwar Temple :According to history, the Moon was once cursed by Daksha Prajapati. To get away from the curse, the Moon executed self-mortification. God was pleased and he came out before the Moon and set the Moon free from the curse. And so this place came to be known as Chandramoulishwar meaning Lord Shiva. The place has a famous temple by this name and the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Chandramoulishwar temple is Udupi's aajya, or grandfather temple. Every observance at the Krishna Temple always starts with a compulsory visit to this temple.

| Pajaka Village :A village where Dvaita philosopher Sri Madhavacharya was born is Pajaka. It is in Udupi Taluk. The place is a natural beauty. There are many concerning places to be visited at Pajaka. The most important of all is the hereditary home and birthplace of Sri Madhva. The place also contains a banyan tree planted by Sri Madhva. Pajaka is also famous for the spot where Sri Madhva lifted two huge stones and kept them on the pots and also 4 ponds from where he used to take water. Madhva Mandira is near by to the house where many religious activities take place. It is also a Vidyapeeta where students are taught Vedas and Sanskrit. |
