Hubli : An Introduction |
Hubli, also called Hubballi, is a major city in the state of Karnataka of India. The name Hubballi literally means "flowering creeper" in Kannada. The twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad, collectively referred to as "Hubli-Dharwad", is the second-largest conurbation in Karnataka after Bangalore. While Dharwad is the administrative headquarters, the city of Hubli, situated about 20 km south-east of Dharwad, is the commercial centre and business hub of North Karnataka. Crops like cotton and peanuts are grown aplenty in the surrounding rural areas, and Hubli is a major trading center for both commodities.

Unkal Lake :Unkal lake is beautiful water spot in Hubli & is about 110 years old. This lake is spread across 200 acres of land. Centre of the lake is situated the statue of Swami Vivekananda which is the prime attraction of the lake. It has recreational facilities for children. You can enjoy a boat ride here. The Unkal lake , however, is large enough to accommodate all visitors as well as the hawkers. Hotel Naveen,the star attraction in Hubli is just beside this spot. It is the source of drinking water to a portion of Hubli. |
| Nrupatunga Betta :Nrupatunga Betta is one of the favourite tourist place in Hubli city. A hillock with asphalted roads leading from the base to the top, its a place for relaxation for the people of Hubli - Dharwad.The hillock has been recently developed by the Dharwad district administration and is more refreshing now. A new entrance has been constructed at a distance of 1km from the hill top. People are required to purchase a ticket and walk from the entrance to the hill top. Vehicles have to be parked at the entrance itself. |
| ISKCON Temple :Tourists interested in exploring the pilgrim sites of Hubli are 'recommended' to visit the popular 'Sri Krishna Balarama' Temple that is situated at Rayapur. This temple had been constructed by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and was first opened for devotees on 12th February, 2006. This pilgrim site has striking resemblance with another ISKCON temple located in Bangalore. The temple is known around the globe for its services that include providing mid-day meals to about 80,000 school kids from Dharwad and Hubli. |
| Glass House Garden :A trip to tourist Indira Glass House Garden is recommended to tourists who want to see its renowned flower show. This site has been named after Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, who had inaugurated this site. This structure acts as the perfect spot for holding important exhibitions, meetings and programs. The Indira Glass House Garden has striking resemblance with Lal Bagh at Bangalore. A skating ground and lush green lawns are present at this site. |
| Nuggikeri Hanuman Temple :While on a trip to Hubli city, it is 'recommended' that travellers should visit Nuggikeri Hanuman Temple that is devoted to Lord Hanuman. This temple is considered as one of the most revered pilgrimage sites of this region. Upon visiting this temple, travellers will get the chance to view an old statue of the deity that was reinstalled by popular Saint Shri Vyasraj. At present, this sculpture is managed by Desai family. This temple draws more crowds on Saturdays, which is celebrated as vishesha divasa for Lord Hanuman. Currently, this monument and the surrounding areas are undergoing construction for restoration. |
| Siddharoodha Math :While exploring Hubli city, a visit to Siddharoodha Math is recommended to all tourists. This math was established in memory of Shri Siddharoodha Swamy (1837-1929) who accepted Samadhi in 1929. This site had been visited by some popular historical figures, namely Lokamanya Gangadhar Tilak in 1929 and Mahatma Gandhi in 1924.Siddharoodha Math is considered to be a religious institution. Moreover, this math is a centre for spreading the teachings of Swami Siddharoodha that include his 'Advaita' philosophy. |

The Maruti Water World is located in proximity of ESI Hospital at Karwar Road, Hubli. This water park is visited by people for its water games park. Water World, a property of Country Club, is popular among people, especially kids, for its numerous thrilling water rides. |
| Banashankari Temple :Amargol is located in between Dharwad and Hubli and adjucent to Navanagar. It is famous for the ancient temple dedicated to Banashankari. Banashankari Temple at Amargol is 4 km from Unkal lake and Chandramouleshwara Temple HubliAt Amargol there is a temple of Shankarlinga built by Jakkanacharya. Nearby there is a Banashankari Temple.In the early 13th century, the temples of this period have nagara articulation, built in the stepped diamond and the square plan natural to a nagara superstructure. Notable among temples with a stepped-diamond style are the Ganesha Temple at Hangal. |
| Chandramouleshwara Temple :Unkal is one of the areas which come under Hubli-Dharwad in North Karnataka, it is on old Pune - Bangalore highway NH4. Chandramouleshwara Temple is very near to Unkal circle and Unkal Lake (on Old NH4 Between Hubli and Dharwad). Exactly opposite to the temple you can locate the very beautiful Nrupatunga Betta.
