Kanakadurga Temple : One of the most important centers mentioned in the sacred texts is the Kanakadurga Temple. Built atop a hill, the temple is synonymous with Vijayawada, while Kanakadurga, the Goddess of power, riches and benevolence, is considered to be the presiding deity of Vijayawada. Adi Sankara is believed to have visited the temple and installed the 'Sri Chakra' here. During the Dassera festival, special celebrations are held. On the way to the Kanakadurga Temple there are rock-cut caves dedicated to Akkanna and Madanna, ministers in the court of Abul Hasan Tanashah, the Qutub Shahi ruler in the 17th Century. |

Prakasam Barrage : The idea of constructing a barrage across Krishna dates back to 1798. But it took some shape in the hands of captain Buckle and was revised in 1839 and 1841 by captain Best and captain Lake. After the endorsement of Major Cotton, the board of Directors of East India Company approved it on 5th January 1850. The barrage was started in 1852 and completed in 1855. Later the State Government constructed a new regulator cum-round bridge that was named after Sri Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Completed in 1957 it helps irrigating over 12 lakhs of acres. It provides a panoramic site of the river. |

Kondapalli Fort : Kondapalli Fort, dating back to 14th century, is constructed on a hillock near Vijayawada. The fort with a three-storied rock tower is assumed to be built by Prolaya Vema Reddi, the founder of Reddy kingdom of Kondaveedu. Some historians claim that the fort was as old as 7th century and was built by King Krishna Deva Raya. The fort got renovated later under the control of the Qutub Shahis. A major attraction here is the dargah of Gareeb Saheeb, a Persian saint. The village is renowned for its toys known as Kondapally Toys. This is pleasant picnic spot attracting steady growth of tourists.

| Mogalarajapuram Caves : Mogalarajapuram Caves, located in the proximity of Vijayawada, is famous for three cave temples believed to be as old as 5th century. One among the three cave temples adorns a spectacular carving of Ardhanariswara, which is believed as the only one of its kind in South India. These cave temple have carved deities of Lord Vinayaka and Lord Shiva in Nataraja form. This is a good ancient temple to visit and see the ancient culture and ancient style of living. |

Krishna River : The Krishna River is one of the longest rivers in central-southern India, about 1,300 kilometres (810 mi). It is also referred to as Krishnaveni in its original nomenclature. The Krishna River is the fourth longest river in India after the Ganges, the Godavari and the Narmada.Krishna river rises at Mahabaleswar near the Jor village in the extreme north of Wai taluka,district satara, Maharashtra in the west and meets the Bay of Bengal at Hamasaladeevi in Andhra Pradesh, on the east coast. It also flows through the state of Karnataka. |

Gandhi Stupa :The first Gandhi Memorial with 7 Stupas in the country was constructed on this hill at a height of 500 ft. The 52 ft. Stupa was unveiled on 6th October, 1968 by Dr. Zakir Hussain, the then President of India. Gandhi Memorial Library, the Sound and Light Show on Mahatma Gandhi's life and a planetarium are the other attractions.There is also Gandhi Memorial Library, a planetarium with music and light shows on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and a toy train that go round the hill. |

Bhavani Island : FLocated at a distance of 4 km. from Vijayawada, the Bhavani Island is situated upstream of River Krishna close to Prakasam Barrage. It is a good picnic spot for nature lovers.
